Glow Your Own 2023 – weekly coding workshop (4 of 6)

Get ready for the Oxford Light Festival by creating your very own moving lantern. This weekly workshop series will help you build your own creative circuit with sensors that control LEDs and motors, using tools like Tinkercad to combine art and engineering.
Workshop 4 introduces remote control with a light dependent resistor (LDR) sensor and using serial monitor to adjust the sensitivity of your interactive circuit. It shows how to upload code from Tinkercad using Duino.app and control a LEDs flashing in a sequence.
You can request an Arduino starter kit to be sent to you by post (UK addresses only – details provided by email when you sign up)
Suitable for ages 7 – 12, teenagers and adults. We recommend families work together.
Six live video sessions will be recorded to watch again on if-oxford.com
Run by IF Oxford and supported by STFC, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UKAEA, Science Oxford, Fusion Arts and Oxford City Council
For the coding, you will need and computer with a USB port and:
- Tinkercad software and logins (Installation and set-up in Workshop 1)
- Arduino, USB connecting wire and software (Installation and set-up in Workshop 1)
- Breadboard
- Jumper wires
- Wrapping wire approx. 90cm
- LEDs (Colours optional)
- Resistors
- Buttons
- 9v Battery and snap connector or USB rechargeable power pack
- LDR photoresistor
- Servo motor
Also, you will need:
- Pens/pencils
- Paper
- Fairy lights
- Arts & crafts materials of your choice – tissue paper, scissors, glue, ribbon, string, cardboard, etc.
