Germination

By Peter, age 8

From the drifting seed to the endless sky,
From the endless sky to the drifting seed,
The seed, as it falls, has the world in its reach,
Through the sky with the birds with their wielding calls.

The impact of the seed as it hits the ground,
Plummeting,
Makes it sink to the bowels of the world so deep.

Though only an inch sinks the seed,
The ground consumes it,
Enveloping it in darkness.

Then, like a magic key opening the door of life,
The seed awakens,
With light, oxygen, and warmth, the seed coat erupts,
Like lava trickling, the first radicle root reaches,
Down into the earth,
And the first shoot springs up, up, up,
To the light.

Days, weeks, and years fly by,
The sharp breeze whipping the tree’s helpless boughs,
Taking the seeds with it,
On their own journey to germination.
