Event plan for Leys on 19 Nov:Glow Your LED switch on event (6.30pm Fri 19 Nov)
The LED art installation is present Friday 19 — Sunday 21 November: switch-on at 6.30pm on Friday, and then at the fall of darkness on Saturday and Sunday.
The Leys CDI, Blackbird Leys Community Centre, Blackbird Leys Rd, Oxford OX4 6HW
Young people and families across Oxford and the UK have been developing small LED lanterns that respond to light. Their LEDs flash in a whole range of sequences and colours, controlled by computer code developed during a free 6-week course. You can join in with Glow Your Own by visiting: https://if-oxford.com and search GLOW YOUR OWN.
The artist working on Glow Your Own has created a new site-specific LED artwork taking their lead from youth members of the Leys CDI summer programme and after-school clubs. Young people created a design reminiscent of Keith Haring, incorporating emojis, real-life social connections and the reimagined skyline of Blackbird Leys.
Cj, the Glow Your Own artist, has blended imagery of computer circuitry, interactivity in the form of a retro computer game, and the design themes from teenagers to create a new splash of light in Leys that responds to your presence using QR codes.
