Unkindest Cut: meet the creators

Venue: Oxfordshire County Library, Queen Street, Westgate, Oxford, OX1 1DJ

Outside it seems to be a shipping container much like any other. Inside though, it’s a fortress of ideas – intimate and intense, alluring but alarming, contained yet spilling over. What has been going on in the shipping container opposite the Westgate Centre? Find out at this discussion with the artist and the clinical psychiatrist who created it.

Subathra Subramaniam is a choreographer, dancer and educator. She is the artistic director of Sadhana Dance. Suba’s work is unique. Her choreography navigates the confluence of arts and science drawing from her belief that dance can play a part in the public understanding and engagement with scientific concepts. Her work combines contemporary choreography and Bharatanatyam.

Dr Partha Banerjea is a consultant adolescent psychiatrist, running a high-risk, high-impact adolescent service at the Maudsley Hospital in South London. He is lead clinician for Southwark Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, and visiting lecturer at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He has a keen interest in how to train future psychiatrists and interdisciplinary ideas such as the interface between psychiatry and the arts.

Half-hour performances of Unkindest Cut: Harm and Harmony in your Head take place in the shipping container on Bonn Square at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 6pm daily from Weds 17 to Sun 21 October. Book here.
