The Pursuit of Speed

Venue: Wig and Pen, 9-13 George St, Oxford, OX1 2AU

Football, cycling, rowing, wrestling…it doesn’t matter what sport we choose, we all just want to be higher, faster, stronger. Join us for a discussion and short film to explore sports and our bodies. Find out more about anabolic steroids through a conversation with Professor of Encrinology Richard Holt, Professor David Cowan, director of the drug control centre which ran anti-doping facilities for the London Olympics and Paralympics, Laura Bell, who runs a local Oxford running club and film-maker and immunology researcher Dr Amy Hong.

The discussion will cover not only the science behind doping, but also the ethics of performance enhancing drugs and pressures athletes face and the choices they make. Everyone in the audience will have a vote in their hands.

This event is supported by the Society of Endocrinology.

IF Oxford is operating a Pay What You Decide (PWYD) ticketing system. This works by enabling you to pre-book events without paying for a ticket beforehand. Afterwards, you have the opportunity to pay what you decide you want to, or can afford. If you prefer, you can make a donation when you book.

There may be tickets available on the door – spaces may be reallocated if ticket holders are late.
