Placebo and Surgery

Many of us are familiar with the idea of placebos in drugs trials, but how can we use placebos in surgical trials? Professor Andy Carr will talk about why we do surgical trials, the unexpected use of placebo surgery and some of his recent findings from surgical trials using placebos.

Andy Carr is the Nuffield Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Oxford. He is an inter-disciplinary researcher distinguished for evaluating and developing surgical implants and technologies and for his leadership in surgical and musculoskeletal research.

IF Oxford is operating a Pay What You Decide (PWYD) ticketing system. This works by enabling you to pre-book events without paying for a ticket beforehand. Afterwards, you have the opportunity to pay what you decide you want to, or can afford. If you prefer, you can make a donation when you book.

There may be tickets available on the door – spaces may be reallocated if ticket holders are late.
