Identity, Music, Society & Politics
Somerville College has supported refugees since the 1930s and became a University College of Sanctuary in 2021. Examine forced migration against a backdrop of conflict, climate change and development, while students share their lived experiences as refugees and volunteers. You’ll hear Displaced Voices, a collaboration with Oxford Spires Academy, bridging cultures through music. Composers worked with young asylum seekers to create orchestral backing for their poetry, which highlights their cultural heritages and new lives in Oxford.
This event is offered in-person at Somerville College, and also as a simultaneous digital live-stream. Click the ‘Book now’ button to book for either option.
IF Oxford uses Pay What You Decide (PWYD) ticketing so you can choose to pay whatever you want, or can afford. With a sizable number of staff, performers, volunteers, and indeed the public, not yet fully vaccinated, we encourage our visitors to continue wearing masks and to practice social distancing so that we can all feel safe and protected. We see this as an important step to protecting everyone involved in creating culture in Oxford, and kindly request that visitors remain considerate during this time. In the event of a change in COVID status, the Festival reserves the right to convert in-person events to digital if required and will inform all ticket holders of any changes.
