Choral Contemplation

The second of two spiritual events for IF Oxford this Sunday. Hear the Somerville College Choir alongside an ‘undenominational’ thought-provoking service in the Chapel described as ‘A House of Prayer for all People.’ Choral contemplation takes place year-round and this special event highlights themes connecting science, faith and philosophy with music and quiet reflection.

A contemplative programme of music, performed by Somerville choir and college instrumentalists, with short talks by musicians and neuroscientists, giving insight into the way we process sound and how music elicits empathy. We will also hear how community music projects are having an impact on mental wellbeing, highlighting the power that music has over mood, physiology and the mind.  Music includes choral works by Lotti, Dyson and Quartel, performances by our organ scholars and 2nd year music student, Max Rodney, will perform ‘Undertale Variations’ for solo marimba.

This event is unticketed and free, but it helps us monitor interest if you register here.
